MG Car Club of Toronto and the North American MGB Register are excited to invite you to Peterborough, gateway to the scenic Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario next June 19-23 for MG2022. Peterborough is located roughly half way between Toronto and Ottawa and the area boasts some fantastic MG driving roads in Central Ontario’s idyllic cottage country. Peterborough is a vibrant small city that is home to some excellent local attractions. We are thrilled to be heading back to Peterborough after hosting the very first annual convention of the North American MGB Register there back in 1992.
MG 2022 Update – September 2021
The MG 2022 organizing committee is pleased to provide you with the following update on our arrangements for the event next June 19-23.
Our programming schedule is in the finalization process. We think the programs on offer will be appealing to MG enthusiasts of all ages.
We will kick the event off on Sunday afternoon when registration opens followed in the evening by the traditional NAMGBR First Timers Meet & Greet.
On Monday we are planning to have Tech Sessions, the Rallye/Funkhana, Self-Directed Drives, Tours of Petroglyphs Provincial Park, a Lift Lock Cruise during the daytime followed in the evening by our Parking Lot Party.
Tuesday brings us more Tech Sessions, Hagerty Shift School, John Twist’s Legendary Rolling Tech Session, Tour of Bobcaygeon, another Lift Lock Cruise, and the Hutchinson House Tour and Scottish Tea followed in the evening by a group dinner with tours at Lang Pioneer Village and then back to a local Brewpub in downtown Peterborough for Pub/Trivia Night.
Wednesday will bring us the Car Show at Nichols Oval Park where we are planning to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the MGB. We are also hoping to gather the largest assembly of Post Abingdon MGs in North America for this event. Local shopping in downtown Peterborough plus the Hutchinson House Tour and Scottish Tea are also on offer Wednesday for those not interested in the Car Show. The Awards Banquet will follow on Wednesday evening where we are planning to have NAMGBR founding member Keith Holdsworth give us a history of NAMGBR and how the register and first convention came to be back in the early nineties. The Banquet will also feature our special guest speaker who we will announce in the next update.
Thursday morning we are promoting MG2023 in Calgary with a Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Calgary MG Car Club, hosts of the following year’s NAMGBR Convention.
Regalia samples have arrived and look great. We are excited to unveil our line of MG 2022 – The Next Generation branded clothing and products. Mac MacFarlane and Kim Chevalier have done a superb job getting some really nice looking samples for us.
Lorne Mitchell and his sponsorship team have done an excellent job securing event sponsors. We have partnered up with Henderson Brewery and will be offering a limited edition MG 2022 case of beer that we will be selling to commemorate the event. More news on that to come.
We will be releasing a promotional video for MG 2022 in the next couple of weeks so stay tuned for that. Ben Badenoch and Peter Mittler did some filming up in Peterborough and the surrounding areas and our local video editor has done a great job of putting together a 4 minute video to whet your appetites for the big event.
In addition to the promo video, I was lucky enough to be interviewed by Wayne Scott from the MG Car Club Podcast where I told a bit of my MG story and gave a detailed preview of MG 2022 on the recently released Episode 66. Finally, it sounds like the MG Vintage Racers group is indeed planning their 2022 Focus Event at the VARAC Vintage Grand Prix at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. This is a legendary racetrack that was once home to Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix and is located only a half hour or so drive time from Peterborough. If you’re looking for a real MG adventure please consider attending the Vintage Grand Prix from June 17-19, the weekend preceding MG 2022.
That’s all I have for now. Rest assured we are continuing to work hard to put together a fantastic week of MG fun. We look forward to seeing you next June in Peterborough.
